Nissan Pauses ARIYA Production for the U.S. Ahead of 2026 Model Year
Nissan has announced that the ARIYA electric SUV will not return for the 2026 model year in the United States, effectively pausing production for this market. While sales of the Ariya have shown modest year-over-year growth, Nissan has decided to shift focus within its EV lineup.
For now, dealerships will continue to have 2025 ARIYA models available, but no new production for the U.S. has been confirmed beyond this model year. Nissan representatives have pointed to the fast-changing EV landscape in the U.S. as a factor in the decision.
Instead of continuing ARIYA production, Nissan plans to reallocate resources toward the next-generation Nissan LEAF. The LEAF is expected to play a major role in Nissan’s EV strategy moving forward, thanks to its significantly lower starting price compared to the ARIYA. The 2025 Nissan ARIYA currently starts at $41,265, while the upcoming LEAF is expected to come in under $30,000, making it a more budget-friendly entry point for EV shoppers.
This move aligns with broader industry trends, as several automakers have recently delayed or canceled EV programs due to economic headwinds and shifting consumer demand. Nissan itself canceled plans for a U.S.-built EV sedan earlier this year. Additionally, challenges like the loss of federal EV tax credits and a 15% import tariff on Japanese-built vehicles have made the ARIYA less competitive in the U.S. market.
While the ARIYA’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain, customers still have the opportunity to lease or purchase the 2025 Ariya, which continues to offer impressive range, cutting-edge technology, and a comfortable all-electric driving experience. For those looking ahead, the upcoming Leaf promises to keep Nissan at the forefront of accessible, mass-market EVs.
