One of the earliest mass-produced battery electric vehicles, the Nissan LEAF has become somewhat of an icon in its own right amongst EVs. Now that electrification is taking over the automotive industry, the LEAF remains an excellent option in the compact car segment. Late last year it was announced that the 2024 LEAF would be eligible to qualify for part of the U.S. federal EV tax credit through December 31, 2023, as long as it met certain criteria. Well, we’ve got some good news thanks to new details, tax credit eligibility may be extended beyond the end of last year. Read on below to learn more about these tax credit details as well as the most exciting 2024 Nissan LEAF specs & features.
“For more than a decade, the LEAF has been one of the most attainable electric vehicles on the market. Eligibility for part of the federal EV tax credit puts LEAF within reach for even more customers who are ready to make the switch to an EV.”
- Judy Wheeler, Divisional Vice President, Nissan U.S. Sales and Regional Operations
Adding to the previous run in which the 2024 Nissan LEAF was eligible for this tax credit, Nissan was recently able to recertify that the vehicle meets the “battery component” requirements of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This means that LEAF models built and sold on or after March 6, 2024, could potentially qualify for a tax credit of up to $3,750, as long as the customer meets all purchase and income qualifications for the EV tax credit, which is outlined in Internal Revenue Code Section 30D. This tax credit is in addition to the $3,750 incentive Nissan offers to customers that lease any 2023 or 2024 LEAF.
